35kV Line-Suspended Surge Arrester
Product Overview
35kV line suspension arrester (Model HY(YH)5WS-51/134, HY(YH)5WX-54/142) is a gapless metal oxide surge arrester designed specifically for 35kV overhead lines. It features a silicone rubber composite housing and a suspension-type mounting structure, allowing direct installation on 35kV overhead lines. The arrester effectively limits lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages to protect the insulation of lines and distribution equipment from damage.
Product Features
Electrical and Protective Performance
High-performance zinc oxide varistors with excellent volt-ampere characteristics deliver low residual voltage and high current-handling capacity, effectively limiting lightning and switching overvoltages on 35kV overhead lines to prevent insulation damage.
Fast response speed enables immediate operation upon the appearance of overvoltage, promptly discharging lightning current to prevent overvoltage from entering line equipment. Protection performance is stable and reliable.
Excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics result in extremely low leakage current and low power dissipation under normal operating voltage. Under overvoltage conditions, the device conducts rapidly and automatically restores its insulating state after discharging current — maintenance-free.
Structural and Safety Features
The integral silicone rubber composite housing is seamless and void-free, providing superior sealing performance that effectively prevents moisture and contaminants from penetrating the interior and protects the varistors from moisture-induced damage.
The integrated modular design includes a built-in suspension mounting terminal compatible with overhead line insulator strings, requiring no additional auxiliary equipment and suitable for overhead line installation.
The built-in grounding terminal can be connected directly to a surge arrester counter or to earth, enabling convenient installation with no electric shock hazard and ensuring the safety of operation and maintenance personnel.
The gapless design eliminates power-frequency follow current during operation, removing any risk of explosion or fire caused by power-frequency follow current and ensuring a high level of operational safety.
Environmental and Weather Resistance
Excellent weather resistance across a wide temperature range of -40°C to +90°C. The silicone rubber housing retains its elasticity and insulating properties at both high and low temperatures with no risk of cracking or embrittlement, making it suitable for outdoor overhead line environments.
Resistant to moisture, water, contamination, and salt fog, enabling long-term stable operation in harsh environments such as humidity, heavy dust, and coastal salt spray. Immune to rain and condensation erosion. The strong hydrophobicity of the silicone rubber surface effectively prevents surface flashover.
Anti-aging, UV-resistant, and ozone-resistant, with a service life exceeding 20 years. Maintenance-free operation reduces long-term operating and maintenance costs.
Mechanical and Compatibility Features
High mechanical strength with excellent impact and vibration resistance. The arrester can withstand mechanical stresses from wind-induced vibration and lightning current impulse without deformation or damage. Seismic resistance rating: Grade 8.
Compatible with 35kV overhead lines; can be installed directly on line insulator strings with broad universality, adapting to different pole types and insulator string configurations.
Compact size and lightweight design. The suspension-type mounting structure allows convenient installation without complex installation procedures.

Applications
Applicable voltage level: 35kV AC overhead distribution systems.
Applicable scenarios:
Lightning protection for 35kV overhead distribution lines;
Lightning protection for overhead line insulator strings and line equipment;
Lightning protection for 35kV overhead lines at urban distribution networks, industrial and mining enterprises, and new energy (photovoltaic/wind power) step-up substations;
Overvoltage protection for outdoor 35kV overhead lines.
Functional purpose: To limit lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages, discharge lightning current to earth, and protect the insulation of 35kV overhead lines and equipment from damage, preventing line flashover and equipment puncture faults caused by overvoltage, thereby ensuring the safe and stable operation of overhead distribution systems.
Operating Conditions
Normal Operating Conditions
Altitude: ≤2000m;
Ambient temperature: -40°C to +90°C; equipment operating temperature in accordance with relevant standards;
Relative humidity: ≤100% (non-condensing);
Environmental conditions: free from corrosive gases, flammable and explosive media, and severe vibration or shock (compatible with wind-induced vibration on lines);
Installation method: mounted via the suspension terminal in conjunction with the overhead line insulator string; the grounding terminal connected to a surge arrester counter or directly to earth; installation space must satisfy creepage distance requirements.
Special Operating Conditions (Customization Required)
Altitude exceeding 2000m;
Ambient temperature outside the range of -40°C to +90°C;
Severely polluted, salt-fog, or chemically corrosive environments;
High-wind or high-vibration conditions;
Non-standard insulator string configurations or special current-handling capacity requirements.
Installation and Maintenance
Installation Requirements
Before installation, inspect the product appearance: the silicone rubber housing must be free from cracks, damage, and voids; the mounting and grounding terminals must be intact, without corrosion or deformation.
Clean the mounting terminal and the overhead line insulator string surface, removing grease, dust, and foreign matter to ensure the mating surfaces are dry and clean. Check the grounding resistance of the earthing system to confirm it meets requirements (≤4Ω for 35kV systems).
Attach the arrester suspension terminal to the overhead line insulator string, connect the grounding terminal to a surge arrester counter or directly to earth, and tighten all connections to the specified torque. After installation, verify that the arrester is secure and properly aligned.
Upon completion of installation, perform an insulation resistance test. The arrester may be energized only after passing this test.
Maintenance Requirements
Periodically inspect the product appearance: the silicone rubber housing must be free from cracks, damage, discharge marks, and accumulated contamination; the mounting and grounding terminal connections must be firm and free from loosening; the earthing system connections must be reliable and free from corrosion.
Periodically test insulation resistance and leakage current to verify that performance meets requirements and to detect potential faults in a timely manner.
Clean the product surface to remove accumulated dust and contamination, keeping the silicone rubber surface dry and clean, and preventing corrosion from grease or chemical substances.
If any abnormalities are observed — including cracks, damage, discharge, or insulation resistance exceeding specified limits — immediately take the unit out of service and replace it. Operation with known defects is strictly prohibited.
Precautions
Installation, commissioning, and maintenance of this product must be performed exclusively by qualified electrical professionals certified for medium-voltage distribution work. Operation by non-professionals is strictly prohibited.
This product must be used in conjunction with overhead lines and insulator strings of the corresponding voltage level. Mismatching equipment of different voltage levels or specifications is strictly prohibited, as doing so will result in protection failure and safety incidents.
Unauthorized disassembly or modification of this product is strictly prohibited; doing so voids the warranty and safety guarantee. The use of non-designated tools to forcibly install or remove connection components is strictly prohibited.
During installation, care must be taken not to damage the silicone rubber housing. All connection points must be tightened to the specified torque to prevent overheating or discharge due to poor contact.
During storage, the product must be kept in a dry, ventilated, and cool environment, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, and mechanical compression. Contact with sharp objects that could damage the silicone rubber housing is strictly prohibited.
During operation, the grounding resistance of the earthing system must be inspected periodically to ensure reliable grounding and to prevent protection failure due to inadequate earthing.
