HY(YH) Series Composite-Housed Surge Arresters
Product Overview
HY(YH) series composite jacket arrester (Model HY(YH)W-0.22\0.66kV) are gapless metal oxide surge arresters specifically designed for low-voltage power distribution systems. Encapsulated in a silicone rubber composite housing, these arresters provide superior lightning and overvoltage protection performance, effectively limiting lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages to protect low-voltage electrical equipment from damage. They are widely applied in 0.22kV\0.66kV low-voltage power distribution systems.
Product Features
Electrical and Protective Performance
High-performance zinc oxide varistor discs are employed, offering excellent volt-ampere characteristics, low residual voltage, and high current-carrying capacity, effectively limiting lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages in low-voltage systems and protecting distribution equipment insulation from damage.
Fast response speed enables immediate operation upon overvoltage occurrence, promptly discharging lightning current to prevent overvoltage intrusion into equipment, with stable and reliable protective performance.
Excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics result in extremely low leakage current and minimal power dissipation under normal operating voltage; the arrester conducts rapidly under overvoltage conditions and automatically restores to the insulating state after discharging current, requiring no maintenance.
Structural and Safety Features
The integral silicone rubber composite housing is seamless and void-free, providing superior sealing performance that effectively prevents moisture and contamination from penetrating the interior, avoiding varistor disc damage due to moisture ingress.
The integrated modular structure design offers high mechanical strength with impact and vibration resistance, capable of withstanding mechanical stresses during transportation, installation, and operation without risk of deformation or damage.
Factory-fitted upper and lower terminal connectors facilitate convenient installation; the arrester can be directly connected in series between the low-voltage distribution line and ground without additional auxiliary equipment, compatible with multiple installation configurations.
The gapless design eliminates follow current during operation, removing the risk of explosion or fire caused by power-frequency follow current, resulting in high operational safety.
Environmental and Weather Resistance
Excellent weatherability enables adaptation to a wide temperature range of -40°C to +90°C; the silicone rubber housing maintains its elasticity and insulating performance at both high and low temperatures without risk of cracking or embrittlement, suitable for both outdoor and indoor applications.
Moisture-proof, waterproof, contamination-resistant, and salt-fog resistant, allowing long-term stable operation in harsh environments such as humid, dusty, and salt-fog conditions, unaffected by rain and condensation. The strong hydrophobicity of the silicone rubber surface effectively prevents surface flashover.
Anti-aging, UV-resistant, and ozone-corrosion resistant, with a service life exceeding 20 years, enabling maintenance-free operation and reducing long-term operating and maintenance costs.
Mechanical and Compatibility Features
High mechanical strength with impact and vibration resistance, capable of withstanding mechanical stresses generated by lightning current impulses without risk of deformation or damage; seismic resistance rating reaches Grade 8.
Compatible with 0.22kV to 0.66kV low-voltage distribution systems, installable in low-voltage switchgear, distribution boxes, distribution transformers, outdoor low-voltage lines, and various other equipment with strong universality.
Compact size and lightweight construction enable convenient installation; can be directly mounted on distribution equipment enclosures or brackets without complex installation procedures.

Installation and Maintenance
Installation Requirements
Before installation, inspect the product appearance; the silicone rubber housing must be free of cracks, damage, and voids, and the terminal connectors must be intact, free of corrosion and deformation.
Clean the terminal connector surfaces, remove grease, dust, and foreign matter, and ensure the terminals are dry and clean; inspect the grounding device resistance and verify it meets requirements (≤4Ω for low-voltage systems).
Connect the upper terminal of the arrester to the low-voltage distribution line/equipment and reliably ground the lower terminal; tighten the terminal connectors to the specified torque, ensuring no looseness or tilting after installation.
Upon completion of installation, perform an insulation resistance test and verify compliance before commissioning.
Maintenance Requirements
Periodically inspect the product appearance; the silicone rubber housing must be free of cracks, damage, discharge marks, and accumulated contamination; terminal connections must be secure without looseness; the grounding terminal connection must be reliable and free of corrosion.
Periodically test insulation resistance to verify performance compliance and promptly identify potential faults.
Clean the product surface, remove accumulated dust and contamination, maintain a dry and clean silicone rubber surface, and avoid corrosion from grease and chemical substances.
If abnormalities such as cracks, damage, discharge, or out-of-specification insulation resistance occur, immediately decommission and replace the unit; operation of defective units is strictly prohibited.
Precautions
Installation, commissioning, and maintenance must be performed by qualified electrical personnel holding valid low-voltage distribution work credentials; operation by unqualified personnel is strictly prohibited.
The product must be used in conjunction with low-voltage distribution equipment of the corresponding voltage level; mismatching equipment of different voltage levels is strictly prohibited, as this will result in protection failure and safety incidents.
Unauthorized disassembly or modification of the product is prohibited, as this will void the warranty and safety assurance; forced installation or removal of terminal connectors using non-designated tools is strictly prohibited.
Damage to the silicone rubber housing during installation is strictly prohibited; terminal connectors must be tightened to the specified torque to prevent poor contact leading to overheating and discharge.
During storage, units must be kept in a dry, well-ventilated, and cool environment, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, and compression; contact with sharp objects that may damage the silicone rubber housing is strictly prohibited.
During operation, periodically inspect the grounding resistance of the grounding device to ensure reliable grounding and prevent protection failure due to inadequate grounding.
