HY(YH)2.5WD-0.66~1.14kV Motor Surge Arrester
Product Overview
The HY(YH)2.5WD series surge arresters (models HY(YH)2.5WD-1.3/3.6 and HY(YH)2.5WD-2.6/7.2) are gapless metal oxide surge arresters designed specifically for 0.66kV~1.14kV low-voltage motors, including those used in underground coal mines and industrial/mining enterprises. Encapsulated in a silicone rubber composite housing, these arresters provide excellent overvoltage protection, effectively limiting lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages to protect low-voltage motor winding insulation from damage. They are widely applied in low-voltage motor systems and associated power distribution equipment.
Product Features
Electrical and Protective Performance
High-performance zinc oxide varistors are employed, offering superior volt-ampere characteristics with low residual voltage and high current-carrying capacity, effectively limiting lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages in low-voltage motor systems to protect motor winding insulation from damage.
Fast response speed enables instantaneous operation upon overvoltage occurrence, promptly dissipating overvoltage energy to prevent overvoltage from penetrating motor windings, ensuring stable and reliable protection.
Excellent nonlinear volt-ampere characteristics result in extremely low leakage current and minimal power dissipation under normal operating voltage. The arrester conducts rapidly under overvoltage conditions and automatically restores to its insulating state after energy dissipation, requiring no maintenance.
Structural and Safety Features
The integral silicone rubber composite housing, seamless and void-free, provides outstanding sealing performance that effectively prevents moisture, contamination, and dust from entering the unit, preventing moisture-induced degradation of the varistor elements, and is well-suited for harsh industrial and mining environments.
The integrated modular structure offers high mechanical strength with resistance to impact and vibration, capable of withstanding vibrational stresses during motor operation without risk of deformation or damage.
Factory-fitted upper and lower M10 threaded terminals allow convenient installation by direct series connection between motor windings and ground, requiring no additional auxiliary equipment and accommodating various installation configurations.
The gapless design eliminates follow current during operation, removing the risk of explosion or fire caused by power-frequency follow current, ensuring high operational safety and suitability for explosion-proof and high-risk environments such as coal mines and chemical plants.
Environmental and Weather Resistance
Outstanding weatherability enables operation across a wide temperature range of -40°C to +90°C. The silicone rubber housing retains its elasticity and dielectric properties at both high and low temperatures without risk of cracking or embrittlement, making it suitable for outdoor, indoor, and underground applications.
Moisture-proof, waterproof, pollution-resistant, and dustproof construction allows long-term stable operation in humid, dusty, high-humidity, and salt-fog environments, unaffected by rain, condensation, or dust ingress. The strong hydrophobicity of the silicone rubber surface effectively prevents surface flashover.
Anti-aging, UV-resistant, and ozone-resistant properties contribute to a service life exceeding 20 years with maintenance-free operation, reducing long-term operation and maintenance costs.
Mechanical and Compatibility Features
High mechanical strength with resistance to impact and vibration allows the arrester to withstand mechanical stresses from motor operating vibrations and lightning impulse currents without risk of deformation or damage. Seismic resistance rating reaches Grade 8.
Compatible with 0.66kV~1.14kV low-voltage motor systems, the arrester can be installed at motor winding terminals, power distribution switchgear, and distribution boxes, offering broad applicability.
Compact size and light weight facilitate easy installation; the unit can be mounted directly on motor terminal boxes or distribution equipment without complex installation procedures.

Application scenarios:
Overvoltage protection for 0.66kV/1.14kV low-voltage motors in underground coal mines;
Overvoltage protection for low-voltage motors and associated distribution equipment in industrial/mining enterprises, chemical, and metallurgical industries;
Lightning and switching overvoltage protection at motor winding terminals, power distribution switchgear, and distribution boxes;
Overvoltage protection for outdoor/indoor low-voltage distribution systems and low-voltage motors in new energy applications (photovoltaic/wind power).
Functional purpose: To limit lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages in low-voltage motor systems by dissipating overvoltage energy to ground, protecting motor winding insulation from damage, preventing motor breakdown and burnout faults caused by overvoltage, and ensuring the safe and stable operation of low-voltage motors and power distribution systems.
Operating Conditions
Normal Operating Conditions
Altitude: ≤2000m;
Ambient temperature: -40°C~+90°C; equipment operating temperature complies with relevant standards;
Relative humidity: ≤100% (non-condensing);
Environmental conditions: free from corrosive gases, flammable or explosive media, and severe vibration and shock (compatible with motor operating vibration conditions);
Installation method: Fixed installation via upper and lower M10 threaded terminals; upper terminal connected to motor windings/distribution circuit, lower terminal reliably grounded; installation space must satisfy insulation clearance requirements.
Special Operating Conditions (Custom Orders Required)
Altitude exceeding 2000m;
Ambient temperature outside the -40°C~+90°C range;
Severely polluted, salt-fog, or chemically corrosive environments;
High vibration or high shock conditions;
Non-standard voltage levels or special current-carrying capacity requirements.
Installation and Maintenance
Installation Requirements
Before installation, inspect the product appearance: the silicone rubber housing must be free of cracks, damage, and voids; terminals must be intact, free of corrosion and deformation.
Clean the terminal surfaces to remove grease, dust, and foreign matter, ensuring terminals are dry and clean. Verify the grounding resistance of the grounding device to confirm compliance with requirements (≤4Ω for low-voltage systems; ≤2Ω for underground coal mines).
Connect the upper terminal of the arrester to the motor winding/distribution circuit and reliably ground the lower terminal. Tighten the terminals to the specified torque. Upon completion, the arrester must be installed vertically without looseness or tilt.
After installation, conduct an insulation resistance test; the arrester may only be put into service upon passing.
Maintenance Requirements
Periodically inspect the product appearance: the silicone rubber housing must be free of cracks, damage, discharge marks, and contamination buildup; terminal connections must be tight and secure; ground connections must be reliable and free of corrosion.
Periodically test insulation resistance and leakage current to ensure performance meets requirements and to detect potential faults in a timely manner.
Clean the product surface to remove accumulated dust and contamination, keeping the silicone rubber surface dry and clean, and avoiding degradation from grease or chemical substances.
If abnormalities such as cracks, damage, discharge, or out-of-specification insulation resistance are detected, the unit must be immediately taken out of service and replaced. Operation with known defects is strictly prohibited.
Precautions
The product must be installed, commissioned, and maintained by qualified electrical personnel holding low-voltage distribution work certification. Underground coal mine operations must comply with explosion-proof safety regulations.
The product must be used with low-voltage motors and distribution equipment of the corresponding voltage level. Mismatching equipment of different voltage levels is strictly prohibited, as this will result in protection failure and safety incidents.
Unauthorized disassembly or modification of the product is prohibited and will void the warranty and safety guarantees. The use of non-designated tools to forcibly install or remove terminals is strictly prohibited.
Damage to the silicone rubber housing during installation must be avoided. Terminals must be tightened to the specified torque to prevent poor contact leading to overheating or discharge.
During storage, the product must be kept in a dry, well-ventilated, cool environment, away from direct sunlight, high temperatures, humidity, and compressive loads. Contact with sharp objects that could damage the silicone rubber housing is strictly prohibited.
During operation, the grounding resistance of the grounding device must be checked periodically to ensure reliable grounding and to prevent protection failure due to inadequate grounding.
